Privacy policy

The short version: the app has no account system and sends us nothing, and this website does not track you.

The app

There is nothing to sign up for, so there is no profile of you anywhere. Open Otus does not phone home, does not count what you play and does not send us usage data. Your library lives in a single database file on your own computer.

Nothing leaves your machine unless you pick a folder to share, and you can stop sharing with one click. Downloads come straight from another person's computer, with no company in the middle keeping a record. Chat history, search history and transfer history are stored locally, and you can delete any of them whenever you like.

This website

The site runs on WordPress. We do not use analytics, advertising trackers or social media pixels, and there is no cookie banner because there is nothing here that would need one.

Two ordinary things still happen when you load a page:

  • The web server writes the request to its log, including your IP address, the page you asked for, the time, and the user agent your browser sends. Logs like these are how a server is kept running and secure.
  • Fonts are fetched from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your IP address at the moment those font files load. Nothing else about you is sent.

WordPress sets cookies only if you log in to the site. An ordinary visitor is not given a cookie by us.

Downloads

The installer files are served from this website, so downloading one writes a normal server log entry in the same way any other page does. There is no download tracking beyond that, and you never have to hand over an email address to get the software.

What we never do

We do not sell data, we do not pass it to advertisers and we do not build a profile of anyone. There is no mailing list that you get added to quietly.

Your rights

If you are in the UK or the EU, you can ask what personal data we hold about you, ask for a copy of it, and ask us to delete it. In practice that means server log entries and very little else.

A contact address for privacy requests will be listed here shortly, while the beta is being set up.

Changes

Open Otus is in beta and this site changes often. If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date below changes with it.
