Open Otus is free. It plays the music files on your computer, and it connects you to Soulseek, where people share their collections. You can search for an album, download it, and share your own folders back. Every file lands on your hard drive and stays there.

Still in beta. We are working hard to make it better, so expect the odd rough edge and updates landing often. If something breaks for you, tell us and we will fix it.

Open Otus reads your music where it already sits. It never moves your files, never renames them, and never asks you to upload anything. Add a new album to the folder and it shows up in seconds.

Soulseek is a network where people share the music folders on their own computers. Type an album name, see who has it, and download straight from them. There is no server in the middle and nothing to sign up for.
Soulseek works because people share back. You choose exactly which folders other people can browse, and how much of your upload speed they get. Everything outside those folders stays invisible.
A finished download is a normal file in a normal folder. Play it, move it, copy it to a phone, back it up. Open Otus doesn't lock anything.
Fix a wrong artist, add a missing year, rename a whole album. You decide whether the change touches the tags inside the file, the file name on disk, or both, and you see the result before anything happens.

There is nothing to sign up for, so there is no profile of you anywhere. Open Otus doesn't phone home, doesn't count your plays, and doesn't sell anything. Your library lives in a database file on your own machine.
Open Otus talks to the tools and services that matter for a real collection, and to nothing else.
A music player that talks to a network is ordinary, lawful software, the same as a web browser or an email client. Soulseek has run openly since 2001 from a registered US company, with a published copyright takedown process and a policy of cutting off repeat infringers. Nobody is hiding.
This is a plain-language summary, not legal advice.

Ctrl replaces ⌘ on Windows and Linux. Media keys and Now Playing work on macOS.
Install it, point it at your music folder, let it read. The Soulseek part sets itself up on first run. There is nothing else to install and nothing to sign up for.
It is free. Not a trial, and not a free tier with a paid one sitting above it. There is no pro edition, no licence key and no card field anywhere. Version 0.1.52 is the whole app.
Every platform is ready. Pick your system below. Each file arrives as a zip, because the uploader only accepts archives, so unzip it once it lands and run the installer inside.
